What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that can be stored on your computer when you visit websites. This text file stores information, such as your language preference for a website. When you visit the website again later, this cookie is sent to the website. This way the website recognizes your browser. Cookies can, for example, also ensure that a website appears graphically as supposed to or that a web application works correctly.

Cookies usually also have an expiration period. For example, some cookies are automatically deleted when you close the browser (so-called session cookie), while others remain on your computer for a longer period of time, sometimes even until you delete them manually (so-called persistent cookie).

As soon as you visit this site (for the first time) you will see a popup window in which you can indicate which cookies you want to turn off or on. Your preferences will then be saved.

You can also block cookies in another way, namely via the settings of your browser itself. Consult the help function of your browser for this. If you disable cookies, keep in mind that certain graphic elements may not appear nicely or that you will not be able to use certain applications.
